There are three musicians playing in two shows tonight who deserve your attention. Early in the evening there’s a wonderful double bill at The Rockwood Music Hall Stage 2.
First up at Rockwood Stage 2 is Kristin Diable. Kristin is a singer-songwriter I discovered some years back when she was regularly playing in New York City. Her music is a combination of rock, folk and blues all held together with an amazing voice made even more astonishing with a Louisiana drawl. Kristin lives in New Orleans these days and is only in NYC a couple of times a year, so take advantage of this opportunity to see her.
At 8pm, Kristin will turn over the stage to John Fullbright. I first saw John two years ago at Threadgill’s in Austin at SXSW 2012, and shortly thereafter at a house concert in the East Village. John is a top notch songwriter and a great performer. He’s got a new album, Songs, due at at the end of May. John is a native of Oklahoma and gets to these parts even less frequently than Kristin.
Just a short subway ride away from The Rockwood Music Hall , Mikal Evans will play a set at Cameo Gallery in Williamsburg at 10pm. Mikal’s stock in trade is straight ahead rock with strong vocals, boisterous electric guitar, ambient, moody music and lyrics worth a second listen. Most of Mikal’s shows lately have been solo, and it’s probable that this one will be as well. This show will be the last one for Mikal for a bit, so make this one if you can.
